Hello everyone,
Seeing a patient s/p R anterior should dislocation. She has a Deep Brain Stimulator for Dystonia with port on the L side. Is IMS contraindicated? Not sure if NMES or IMS is contraindicated with DNS.

Thank you!

Certainly DN is not an issue for her. We do not advocate the use of ENS near any metal implants and certainly signal generating device like a pacemaker or stimulator. Because the stimulator is on the opposite side there could be a case made that the distance is such that it would not be a concern. I think in a situation like this discussing it with the neurologist would be a prudent course of action prior to applying ENS.

Thanks Frank! We are still to hear back from the neurologist.
